Windows 11 PC Speakers only work when Teams meeting launches

I'm currently getting no sound through the PC speakers unless I launch a Teams meeting. For example, I can be attempting to play a YouTube video in a browser window, or an mp3 on Media player, but get no sound unless I launch a Teams meeting. When a Teams meeting is launched, the microphone icon appears in the taskbar, and I suddenly hear any sounds I'd been attempting to play through the speakers. Once I leave the meeting the microphone icon disappears, and the sound switches off.It seems as though Teams is the only app to have permission to use the speakers.I've done what I thought were t
