Windows 11 Pictures transferred from my USB stick wont open in my pictures folder.

I bought a HP 1 TB USB stick with a Type C adaptor for my android phone to download pictures off my phone 1114 of them ...but i cant open the pictures on my laptop as the microsoft photos program refuses to recognise the transferred picture files. Can anyone help me . Many Thanks.
