Windows 11 Problems playing videos on an extended Hard Drive.

Since the Microsoft update last week I have a second problem. This concerns Windows 11 again. I can download videos without problem on to the PC or the laptop. When, however, I try to transfer them to an extended Hard Drive (advantageous for space considerations, particularly with the laptop), they work the first time, but should I then switch the computer off and restart, the transferred videos on the extended Hard Drive no longer work. I always use VLC for watching videos, but this problem also occurs if I try to use anything else.Until last week I did not have this problem.
