Dear Microsoft – I write as an owner whom started with his first computer using Windows XP and progressing into Windows 7. I used to work (I am now retired at 60) for a company that was using XP and I encouraged them to upgrade to Windows 7, just shortly after Windows 7 launch.
Now to the present, earlier this year I have been bombarded by reminders that I qualified for a FREE upgrade to Windows 10, actually it was countless times. I have an older computer, about 5 or 6 years in age, it has an Intel I5 processor running at 3.2 GHz, a 1 GB graphics card and 8 GB of Ram – which to my understanding is way above for an average computer owner.
Your company contacted me for the free upgrade to Windows 10, countless times. I finally broke down and took your FREE offer to upgrade. That was the START of MANY problems.
I loaded things, my computer responded and I kind of liked it – for about 10 minutes, this didn’t work, that needed drivers, this worked after a driver update but didn’t after the restart. I then went onto the Dell website and my Inspiron 580 had “not been tested with Windows 10” which is an easy way of saying “buyer beware” and our **** are covered should you make any change. I then retracted my agreement, as your software permitted, and returned to my Windows 7 operating system.
Many months later, and October this year, I finally decided that as your company had professed that Windows 7 support was declining, I decided to make another switch to Windows 10 and try make it work for me. Well again, I had problems, many similar to as before, with Windows 10. Similar being, one day this worked, the next it didn’t (does this sound familiar to anyone?)
I then decided (20 days after the second “upgrade” oh sorry FREE, upgrade to Windows 10) I should return once and for all to Windows 7 Home Premium, which was fully operational, and causing NO problems on my computer, and that I had NO reason to make any changes (oh sorry Microsoft – UPGRADES).
I then went to the Control Panel and clicked on the appropriate items to “return to Windows 7” …. BUT those options were no more…funny. The system said that I had “exceeded the 10 day period” that I would (was basically) screwed, and could no longer return to my fully operating system, Windows 7 Home.
I have spent several days and many hours trying to use my Windows 7 installation to reinstall the operating system, unfortunately, now I can only run my “built in” graphics card, my bought and installed PCI e slot Graphics Card cannot be accessed by Windows, worse, doing any driver updates is next to impossible.
Trust me I have updated the controllers, the BIOs, I have Restored my computer more than an average very **** person would have ****. I have done it in SAFE MODE, I have done it with all systems down, but the NITTY GRITTY, I can’t for the life of me get my dam Graphics Card, which worked fine before the Windows 10 UPGRADE, to work for me. So I thought the card was BAD, I bought another, SAME THING.
Dam Microsoft, must be nice to screw everyone that likes something you want to get rid of. Why don’t you just send an update with some nasty stuff in it and fix things once and for all and eradicate people like me that are just trying to get their old operating system back as it was before you **** IT
