Windows 11 Quickest way for Windows to check existing files when pasting?

I'm trying to do manual backups from an internal to an external drive (automatic backups aren't working for me) and I need to find the most efficient way to ensure Windows checks existing files and copies only new or amended files (an incremental backup, I think). Are there any options other than a simple select, copy and paste? What seems to happen is that Windows takes a long time attempting to paste the block of files and then eventually produces the dialog offering to skip or replace. As I want to do this for 600GB of files, this would take indeed a very long time. Any way to speed it up?H
