Windows 11 Recent Microsoft update changed my ability to open documents.

I use Open Office for my documents. I do not own and have never used the Word program. The new update yesterday changed something and now my documents won't open. When I double click the document "Word" looks like it is going to open but it does not. The Word box is only there for a second and then disappears. Nothing else happens and the document does not open. Open Office is set as the default. I would appreciate any assistance. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Open Office to see if that would make a difference but it did not.
