Windows 10 Saving a PDF File from a scan.

I have been writing a newsletter for years and scanning on HP Smart and saving to a PDF file with no problem. Now, when I open the PDF file in Word, the columns are changed, heading are on page 2 and not 1 and there is garbled words. What is happening????Bonnie
