Windows 10 Secondary SSD (D: drive) goes missing when trying to install games

My Secondary SSD (D: drive) disappears when trying to install games from steam and epic and won't reappear unless I restart my computer. When the drive disappears my computer tends to start having small stutters every couple of seconds. In the epic games launcher there claims to be a file corruption error when the SSD disappears from my device manager. I have tried rescanning disks in disk management and the drive doesn't reappear. Should I wipe my drive entirely or reformat incase there is any corrupted files. According to Hard Disk sentinel my ssd is at 98% health.
