I have a setup with two audio output devices (speaker set) and two audio input devices (microphone), having one of each as the default device for output and input.I also run a Remote Desktop session from that machine, connecting to another machine, and in local machine I go to "Sound Settings" / "App volume and preferences" and set the audio devices for the Remote Desktop app as the non-default devices.
