Windows 11 Some microsoft update has completely messed up my documents file. Don't know where to begin to fix this mess- what is going on???????

Some microsoft update apparently has completely messed up my documents file. It is now in 3 places and it appears it created a "email attachments" file and put one of "My documents" files there. I am so confused. I thought that maybe the Documents file under "email attachments" might be the most recent , and it is for many of my files, but for some it is not!!! I don't know where to look or what Documents file to back up! What a big mess. This is unbelievable. Don't even know how or where to begin to fix other than going through every single file to see what is in there. And there is
