Windows 11 sound from starfield playing through the laptop instead of the speakers connected to monitor.

I have a 2022 Asus tuf A17 and a Dell 34inch ultrawide monitor hooked up to it. when i play starfield the sound plays from the laptop instead of the speakers i have connected to the external monitor. when i go to sound settings on windows and hit ttest it plays the test through the speakers correctly buty the game wont
