Windows 11 Speakers do not show up in device manager or settings- no sound

I have an MSI GS76 Stealth laptop running Windows 11 Pro latest updates installed with 32 GB RAM and Intel i9 processor. Somewhere along the line my speakers disappeared from device manager and settings. I am not sure when this happened. I can connect via Bluetooth to an external speaker and get sound and I can connect to an external HDMI monitor and get sound. Updating the driver doesn't help because windows simply will not acknowledge that the speakers exist. Therefore, running the audio troubleshooter is simply not an option.
