I've noticed, if I open a folder with many photos using the photo app to scroll through all the photos, then a new image is added to that folder the photo app suddenly jumps into focus. Like a notification. Say I have a monitor with the photo app then i put say, an edge browser window in front of it, if i do something in that browser that adds a photo to the folder from which the photo app currently has an image open in, the photo app will register that a image was added then jump into focus.
