I had to buy a EaseUS licence to get this resolved. I'm just going to paste my conversation with Windows tech support. You guys figure it out. As for me, I'm going to move to MAC as soons as possible and I want to be reimbursed not only for the price of the data recovery software but for the emotional stress this situation created.

i use windows for the past 25 years. it's the first time the system deletes all my external data without asking

I certainly understand how important for you this external data, no worries I will do my best to help you on this certain matter.

Before we start, kindly provide your name, the country where you're chatting from, your phone number and your e-mail address.

Just in case we get disconnected I will call you within 5 minutes. So please keep your line open so I can reach you for us to continue with the trouble shooting.

XXX_XXX_XXXX - i'm in panic right now. this is a workstation of a recording studio. on windows 10 its hard to find "free disk space" I asked Cortana and it opened a free disk app. i just wanted to free temporary files from Windows.old and windows 10 assumed that all my audio files in a separate hard drive were trash without me even noticing!

now I went there to find a sample and all samples were gone. 400 gigas

Thank you for detailed information. Here's the case number for our chat session for today: 1458621893

Did you try to check the recycle bin?

on the recycle bin there are a bunch of empty folders

i have restore all that

So to verify, you just run the disk clean up and your folder is now gone, correct?

thousands of files organized in hundreds of folders on a terabyte separate hard drive

I estimate 300 gigabytes of data gone

I chose to delete Windows.old temporary files. It's the first time I do it under this new GUI

on the older windows version I did it many times without fail

the "windows.old" is something being used since windows 7

I understand where you're coming from. But those files are saved to your external hard drive and not in your C drive?

Exactly.

and I selected the system drive, C

Could you please try to unplug and plug back the external hard drive?

is there a way for a remote session so you guys can help me

they are inside the workstation

I just installed easeus free version and it detects the files on the recycle bin but i don't see them

Did you try to unplug and plug back your external hard drive?

Because what happened is so odd that you run the disk clean up to your C drive and the files are saved to external hard drive.

I don't have any warranty that that decision is a good decision

So I believe the files are still saved to your external hard drive but since the PC is not recognized the external hard drive it won't show all the saved files.

is there a way to have a remote session please?

Yes we can connect via remote session that falls under our premium paid support.

the "external" drives that I mention are not external drives, they aren't system drives,

but they are internal drives, they are just storage drives

Thank for confirming that to me.

I could send you a screen shot if this window would help

In order for us to get checked this for you, this would need advance troubleshooting

We recommend signing you up with our Premium Software Support Plan for a reduced price of $49 for 30 days specific to this issue. This plan has money back guarantee if your issue is not resolved.

We also have our Assure Plan for only $149. This Assure Support Plan will cover your Windows issue including this concern that you are having right now. This is good for one year and inclusive of a year’s technical support from Microsoft

Which plan would you like to go for?

this is just bizarre

if I pay $70 to easus I'll have my files back

this is a windows glitch and a big one

windows just assumed all WAV and MP3 files were from a previous windows installation.

which for a normal consumer means all songs and movies with a old date would be obliterated

I understand why you feel that way, just to set your expectation once the files are deleted to the computer we always recommend customer to checked the recycle bin where the files will save after deleting to the computer. But if the files is not there we don't have any means to bring that back and for that we suggest and advice customer to get in touch to Local Data specialist who expertise is to access the hard drive of the computer and restore the deleted files.

I understand your position talking to me. But windows team has to address this. THis is a bug and a big bug

I know what I'm doing. I wouldn't delete 600 gigabytes from a separate hard drive that doesn't contain any "windows.old" files

But you mention it's started after you run a disk clean up which I believe it affect the windows where the files are saved.

i didn't started! the files vanished from drive X and Y with a windows clean up made to drive C only! this is a windows fault!

But you mention earlier that you run the disk clean up and you notice that the files are gone.

Do you remember installing an updates or software before this issue started?

Did you try to look for the files in your one drive folders, or the hidden folders of your file explorer?

I run the disk clean up because I have a OCZ REV3 SSD drive as a system drive with only 120Gs. I have to do this once in a while to have a healthy drive. ALL my work files are in two separate hard drives (inside the computer) one is a scratch drive for project execution and the second is just an archive. AFTER i run this clean up, I was working inside a digital audio workstation and I use audio sample files, from that hard drive, and none were there. That's when I realized what happened

I certainly understand the situation and how this has caused you so much inconvenience. I can't even imagine myself going thru the same trouble as you have. But please understand as well that we don't have any means for the file recovery, and I am now recommending you to contact the right people who I believe can bring back the audio files right away without any inconvenience.

but i need to pay

I understand, and I really want to assist you in recovering your files but please understand as well that we have a limited capability in recovering a lost files since we do not have a program that can do it and that is also the reason why I am recommending you to contact a data recovery specialist so they can assist you in recovering your lost files

and who will address this bug in the future! this is major

now I don't trust windows with my files anymore

even If i had a external drive in the cloud probably it would delete from there as well

No worries I already take note of what happened, and I will make sure our higher technician will know regarding this.

make sure to give them my phone number as well

Yes don't worry about it because I will make sure that this our engineers will be inform about this. You can also use the feedback hub in creating a feedback.
