Norton is aware of the Windows 10 update (12/22/17) problem and related issues and now has an FAQ with an uninstall/reinstall tool for Norton subscribers. The Norton tool works as I was able to restore Norton Premier 360 after the Windows 10 update for Version 1507 of 12/22/17.

The Windows Defender on my Windows 10 is grayed out and I am unable to turn it off. Windows Defender update Antivirus KB2267602 (Definition 1.259.850.0) stopped downloading and installing at 2%-repeatedly since the release of the Windows 10 update 12/22/17. The 12/22/17 Windows 10 update (KB 4033631, KB 4051613, KB3150513, KB4023814, AND KB4023057) apparently installed correctly per the update history other than Norton protection icon and function disappeared after the install until I obtained and used the uninstall/reinstall tool from Norton.

Also Windows 10 update apparently is trying to reinstall the 12/22/17 update or the Windows Defender update Antivirus KB2267602 (Definition 1.259.850.0) even though the Windows 10 update of 12/22/17 appears to be installed, according to the update history. However, the Windows 10 or Defenders update(s) have captured my PC daily and then stop/freeze the update(s) installation at 82% installed, freezings the PC. I have to perform a hard reboot by holding the off button to regain control of the PC. (control/alt/delete does not function for this reboot). Once the PC is back on, the screen says prior version of Windows 10 is being restored. This has occurred daily since 12/23, i.e., 6 times so far. The reinstall attempt will occur again unless I turn my PC off when I am not using it or figure out a way to stop the "re-install."

Please send out an update that corrects these issues, e.g., (1) allows Windows 10 user to schedule or turn off Windows 10 updates (2) allows Windows 10 users to turn off Windows Defender if another malware detection software is installed, and (3) fixes the recurring download problems of Windows 10 update 12/22/17 (Version 1507).

The Virtual Agent on Windows 10 helped with locating the Update Download Fixit Tool which I ran at lease twice and it apparently corrected some registry corruption and 2 other problems (both times it ran) but that fix did not stop the recurring repeat downloading and installing of apparently the 12/22/17 or Defender update(s).
