Windows 11 Unable to exit from s mode

Trying to install an external dvd drive. The computer denying the software prompts me to exit s mode, I did and supposedly successfully. I tried to access the external drive and again it prompts me to exit out of s mode. Now after waiting an hour it tells me that it's working on it.
