Unable to remove or quarantine a threat identified by Microsoft Security

I received a notification that Microsoft Security had identified threats so I opened up the protection history which showed "Threat found - action needed" and "Severe" at the top of a list of theats the rest of which have been blocked or quarantined, see attached screenshot.





I have clicked the drop down arrow next to "Severe" and selected "Actions" and "Remove" but nothing happens and I am just returned to the "Threat found - action needed" message and the MS Security icon continues to show a white cross on a red circle, see below





Can anyone help me sort out this problem.
