Windows 10 Update deleted scanner (Fujitsu) and printer (Brother) software

About a week ago Windows tried to run some kind of an update. I tried to bypass it because I like my Office 2016 suite just fine even though I have a subscription to Office O365 that I could use. I sat down to try to scan a bunch of paper and discovered that my Brother MFC-J6500DW software had been deleted. Downloaded it again and attempted to reinstall. It keeps stopping in the middle because (the install program) tells me the USB cord isn't connected. Unplugged USB cord. Replugged it in. Nothing. Replaced the cord. Nothing. Tried another port. Nothing. HOWEVER, I can still print
