Windows 10 'Update Mesdenger' pop-up

When i put my laptop on a box immediately pops up 'update messenger'. I can't get rid of it. Does anyone know how? And how to stop it happening? It takes up most of the screen. I would really appreciate a simple answer as I'm 76 .. I manage most things ok but I'm actually not very well up on technicalities like this, which i haven't experienced before. (I don't know if I've selected the correct category). I would really appreciate any advice. If I can get rid of it I will remove Messenger but I wonder if it would hapoen with something else if I did?
