Windows 11 Upgrading Asus R507MA/Windows 11 from 4 to 16GB with a single card

I have an Asus R507MA laptop running on windows 11. It had a 4GB RAM. There is only 1 memory slot. I put in a single 16GB/2.666MHz RAM card. When I checked the memory in the system, it only shows 8GB/1.1MHz. Why is this?
