So I've been using this USB perfectly fine for months, and today I plugged it in once again, expecting it to work perfectly fine. However, I noticed no prompt appeared when it was plugged in. I thought it was weird but no big deal, I'll just go into the File Explorer and open it manually.
But it's not there. I saw it shown in the list on the left, and so clicked it (USB Drive E, but it popped up saying "Please insert a disc into USB Drive (E."
So now I'm concerned there's something wrong with the usb port, so I unplug my drive and plug it into a different USB. No response. I try a different laptop all together, and it shows up with a device setup for it, but when it's done the same thing happens, I can't access the files.
At this point I'm certain there's an issue with the drive itself so I go into Devices in the Control Panel and..
It's there, listed as the Mass Storage Device (to be sure I unplugged it, it disappeared, I plugged it back in, it reappears. This is my USB). I decide to Troubleshoot, but it can't detect any problems with the device. I try updating the drivers, but they're already up to date. I try uninstalling and reinstalling the device and usbs in the device manager, restarting and letting my Laptop reinstall them automatically upon the reboot, but it doesn't work. I've tried accessing the files through here, right clicking the mass storage device, going into "browse files", but the option to select USB Drive (E is greyed out, so I can't select it.
At this point I take to the internet, hoping SOMEONE has a solution.
I see the suggestion to go into disk manager and see if it's listed there, but it isn't.
Now I'm completely lost.
TLDR: My USB (Mass Storage Device) is detected in the Device section of the Control Panel, but nowhere else. I cannot access it in any way, and I have tried troubleshooting, restarting and updating/reinstalling the drivers. Nothing has worked. At this point I just want to get my files from this USB and replace it.
