Windows 10 WhatsApp installer aborting Windows 10

I am trying to install WhatsApp on a Surface 3 with up to date Windows 10. The installer file gets downloaded from the Microsoft Store. However, it aborts with no error messages after a few minutes. I have looked at various forums and can see historic WhatsApp install problems although none of the suggested solutions end in 'it works'. Has anybody got a fresh take on this.. It installed fine on my older Windows 10 PC earlier this year.
