Windows 10 When my Computer(laptop) goes to sleep or is turned off and on, my laptop switches from my headset's mic to the laptop's mic

i use jack headphones (with a mic+headset to 3.5mm jack adapter) and they seem to share the same device in my laptop's sound settings
how do i make my laptop automatically switch to my headset's microphone?
