Windows 10 When using Microsoft Remote Desktop on Macos, sound only comes out of the speakers, regardless of the sound settings

I'm using Version 10.8.4 (2111) of Microsoft Remote Desktop on macos. The sounds from Windows comes out of the speakers, regardless of the output settings in macos. So when I use a headset, all other systems sounds come through the headset, EXCEPT Remote Desktop, which still comes out of the speakers. Macos doesn't have by application sound settings, it's all or nothing, so very confused!
