Windows 10 Why are my games taking up so much more CPU then they should.

I am not sure when this started but I tried to open the games I have a they started lagging. I checked my task manager and it showed that the apps were taking up so much more CPU then they normally would take up. I have tried to update my pc and that didn't work.
