Windows 10 Why can't I type @ with my on-screen keyboarrd, due to AltGr triggering screen-reader mode?

I'm a frequent user of the on-screen keyboard, and I'm having an issue using the AltGr button when I need the @ symbol. Hitting this button will turn on the screen-reader, immediately rendering the on-screen keyboard useless. Anything I now click will be read out loud including AltGr and Esc, so there is no way to get out of screen-reader mode once innitiated. The only way I can find to disable the screen-reader again after having hit AltGr, is by using the physical keyboard Esc button. Which kind of defeats the purpose of an on-screen keyboard.
