Windows 8 Why can't I upgrade from windows 8

My current laptop doesn't work so I'm using an old Windows laptop from a friend.it says I have to upgrade to windows 10 before 11 but when I try to run the upgrade I get an error code that reads 0x80072F8F - 0x20000
