Windows 10 Why is my headphones connected as speakers yet they work but the mic is not recognized or doesn't work?

So i tried connecting my headphones to the laptop,It has been recognized as speakers and they seem to work still.The issue is that I cannot use my mic connected to the headphones since the laptop doesn't recognize it.The headphones are apple EarPods with a 3.mm headphone plug.
