Windows 11 Why is my TRIM function not working after I've already checked to ensure all spaces are an ASCII code 32 space instead of a code 160 non-space?

I have a large spreadsheet that is data that was data exported as an excel spreadsheet from Autodesk Civil 3D 2024. After opening up the Excel file, I split a column of data using the Text to Columns function and used a hyphen as the custom delimiter. It worked. However, preceding spaces remained in one of the columns. I attempted to use the TRIM function. I used an empty cell in the existing adjacent column first, and then tried inserting a new column of empty cells. I first typed the TRIM function and selected the cell I wanted to TRIM, then closed the parens, but the function only turned in
