Windows 7 Window Media Player will sync music to usb but cannot play music in car or via WMP

I have had no problems in the past using the Sync function in the windows media player to transfer music to a USB for use in my car. What has changed as the songs transfer but will not play in my car. They also will not play using WMP. But if I go direct to the USB to play a song it will play in the WMP.
