nothing easy about computers ever

I reloaded windows 10 twice before HP would tell me their computer couldn't handle the latest update from Windows. But anyway during the setup windows asked me if I wanted to create a recovery drive on my external hard drive that I was repartitioning and I agreed not knowing it was going to move and empty those files from my computer hard drive. Now my CPU is working overtime trying to use external hard drive and I want to move it back.
