Hi,

I understand that this is an issue that a lot of people have experienced and honestly, most of the advice given doesn't solve the issue for the people asking for help, and none of it has worked for me. I get the impression that Microsoft know this is a problem and simply don't care but here goes anyway.

When I plug in headphones or external speakers into my 3.5mm audio jack, my laptop does not detect them, it continues to use the onboard speakers. If I start the laptop with the headphones already plugged in, or restart it, they will be used. I've tried updating drivers for Realtek audio and it just tells me the drivers are up to date. The only device listed for audio output are "Headphones", but this doesn't seem to really mean anything as Windows either uses the on board speakers if nothing was plugged into the audio jack on start up, or it uses the headphone if they were. This is really irritating as it means I have to restart my laptop if I want to use headphones or external speakers.

Is there are reliable fix for this? I'd be really grateful if someone can help me out. Please don't just respond with "update your drivers" I've tried this repeatedly and it doesn't do anything.

Thanks

Will
