I'm using Windows 10 Pro version 20H2 on a quite new laptop (less than 6 months old). I also use several external HDDs, which are connected/disconnected almost daily. One of these HDD (Seagate 1TB, an older type with power supply, been using it for years) has been BitLocker protected (entire disc encryption). Without any apparent reason Windows suddenly stopped recognizing this HDD completely. When connected, it does not ask for a password, does not show in Windows Explorer, Device Manager or Disk Management. I've tried all available USB ports several times, as well as rebooting the system to no avail. All the other HDD work without any problem, so I'm sure the USB ports are fully operational. I'm also sure this is not a Seagate HDD hardware problem too, as I tried connecting it to another 2 different laptops - it is instantly recognizable, I can unlock it and access my files as normally. When I'm back with it on my laptop, it is unrecognizable again. There were no Windows updates, program or driver installation or settings change on my behalf since the drive last worked. I can only suspect some problem with BitLocker on this particular laptop, but I can't imagine what in particular as I was not touching any settings. Do you think I should try turning BitLocker off for this HDD (while connected to another computer)? I would have already tried, but the downside is it takes tens of hours to decrypt the drive of this size. Any advice?
