I write on a daily basis. I'm going to be having surgery soon which will render one arm basically useless so I need an alternative method of getting my writing done. A friend told me about the Windows 10 text to speech program bundled in version 1709. I open the program to begin learning at and I've discovered it has a lot of idiosyncrasy's. One of the most annoying is its habit of writing down the command you've just given it . For example, if I dictate this sentence: Sally said, "Good morning." it might come out, Sally said, comma open quotes good morning. close quotes. I don't know how to correct this so it just performs the commands.
It seems to have great difficulty highlighting blocks of text and then performing the desired function. For example, if I told it to highlight John Doe in the sentence, He went by the name of John Doe, it won't, and if I manually highlight the text in question, and then say, "Delete selection", it simply writes down that command.Paragraph See? It didn't do a paragraph break, it simply typed the word.
Are Are there workarounds for this issue or is there a list of a undo back highlight to undo -- I tried it again and as you can see all it did was type out the commands rather than actually performing them. Again is there a work around for this particular problem, or is there a site where I can get a more complete and coherent list of commands to use with this app? I'd like to learn how to use it before the surgery in a couple of weeks.
I am using Windows 10 version 1709 and most of the problems have occured when I'm dictating In a Word document. I get MS office through my annual subscription, so all versions are up to date. Thank you for any help you can offer .
I dictated this question and I left all the errors that occur during the course of the dictation . The only time I changed anything was when I had to go back and repair some of the mistakes at made in order to be relatively clear in what I was asking or saying.
