Windows 11 windows 11 PC won't pick up audio or microphone

I recently got my first PC and I was trying to connect my headset into my PC but whenever I tried plugging it in any of the 3.5 headphone jack my PC is not notifying me of a connection. I just got a audio splitter to be able to use both my mic and headset but not even with the splitter is it detecting anything, any help would be much appreciated
