I'm trying to convert a personal recreational-programming project that uses the Windows terminal (the C: prompt) from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I’m finding different behavior with the background color palette for individual characters on the Windows 11 terminal. The language (which may or may not be terribly relevant) is Perl, specifically Cygwin Perl. But I'm trying to figure out if my problem is independent of the language. I’m specifically having trouble setting the high bit of the 8-bit color attribute, that chooses one of 16 foreground colors and one of 16 background color
