Windows 7 Windows 7 Professional, 64bit....desperate to recover lost data during backup repair.

The day before Microsoft ended support for my PC....Windows 7 Professional 64bit, I attempted to do a full backup but was prevented from doing so due to some unknown problem with libraries. As an alternative, I attempted to restore my computer from previous backups but was astounded to discover that there were no restore points left in the folder. In order to protect the integrity of my computer, I performed a backup repair which assured me all my personal settings, programs, files and folders would not be affected. Instead, to my horror, Microsoft proceeded to download and install updates over the next four hours, following which Windows 7 was re-installed on my PC....... but in doing so it removed all the programs, files and folders that were installed prior to performing the backup repair. Computer properties shows that the usage memory doubled following the repair process so I am hopeful the data that appears to have been lost is still actually on the hard drive. With that thought in mind, I ran the Recuva software but to no effect. If anybody knows how I might recover my programs, files and folders etc., I will be most grateful.
