Windows 7 Windows 7 Sound Recorder - Playback problem

I have recorded a short clip from internet radio 4 onto my Windows 7 PC which normally has no problem with audio recordings. I have followed the instructions and help advice for "Sound Recorder", but the basic problem remains: I can see the visual playback in the Windows Media screen of the wma file which I have created. But in spite of fiddling about with all the controls that I can see I cannot get any sound. I have tried changing the format to VLC but that did not make any difference. What else can I do or what have I missed?Thanks
