Could somebody please help?
I recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU, and logged into Windows only to find that it was now unactivated.
I've run the troubleshooter numerous times, and it has failed to work.
If I use the "i recently changed hardware on this device" option, it also fails to work.
I've called windows tech support four times and spent nearly six hours on the phone with various tech representatives.
They all do the same thing over and over again, which is log into Quick Assist, poke around the exact same menus in the activation troubleshooter, ask me to sign into my Microsoft account so they can look at the purchase history, then either tell me to call back tomorrow for a promised quick fix that never materialises or promise to call me back in ten minutes and hang up (without calling back). This is compounded by the fact that windows tech support only runs from 12am to 10am during the weekends, which is the only time of the week I can sit down with the PC.
Windows has also been reinstalled during those calls, and out of desperation I hooked up my old motherboard and CPU to a spare PSU, turned it back on to make sure that my license was linked to my Microsoft account (it is) and tried to re-run the troubleshooter.
Still no luck. I'm pretty fed up at this point and ready to throw in the towel. Why does a Windows 10 license cost ~$200? I'm probably the only one I know who bought it through the Microsoft store rather than grey market and I'm starting to understand why, especially after literally losing sleep (and I guess money) with tech support over it.
If anyone has any other ideas please help.
