Recently, I foolishly lent a flash drive to someone who must have had a virus; when I used the flash drive after it was returned, Windows Defender immediately went DefCon 1.
I was told that the threat detected was the Trojan:Win32/Tiggre!rfn virus. Windows Defender quarantined it and I removed it.
However, each hour I get multiple alerts that the threat was detected. I then performed every type of scan listed as an option. I set Defender up to remove quarantined threats immediately, so when I open it to check, it says that there is no threat. My threat history shows, however, that there had been a threat before the program quarantined it.
When I check the details, I see the affected items: file: C:\Users\MYNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\aut730D.tmp
Each threat is always from Trojan:Win32/Tiggre!rfn, but with a different "aut" tmp file affected each time. I searched for those files in my Temp folder and couldn't find one. I tried doing a disk clean up, to no avail. And I'd rather attempt an eye surgery while drunk than tamper with my System 32 files. I know when to leave well enough alone.
Along with the threat warnings, my Command Prompt began to open randomly and then disappear. I decided to download Malwarebytes and purchased the Premium version. I ran all types of scans with Malwarebytes that resulted in a clean bill of health.
In short, I'm stumped. If anyone might point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful.
