Hi all, I have an N version of Windows 10. After updating to version 20H2 (KB4023057) last night, windows media player and its codecs have stopped working on my computer, which is causing me issues, as other programs rely on the codecs. I have enabled WMP through Settings>Apps>Optional Features, and my PC says WMP is enabled and takes up 38.9 MB, but as far as I can tell, it does not exist on my computer. It's not in the start menu, if I search it doesn't show up, and there are no files under program files>windows media player or program files(x 86)>windows media player.
Things I have tried:
1. I have restarted, then uninstalled WMP, then restarted again, then re-anabled WMP, then restarted again. (I did this sequence twice)
2. I tried to reregister the dll files using the following commands in CMD:
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 wmp.dll
The third command returns an error message that "the module wmp.dll" failed to load.
3. I tried to get Windows Media feature pack (which used to solve this issue) from here: Download Windows 10 Media Feature Pack but it gives me an error message "The update is not applicable to your computer" .
4. Yes I have VLC which works for some things but I need WMC codecs for other programs.
Is this a known issue, and can anybody help me enable windows media player and actually have it work? Thank you very much!
Cheers,
Aaron
