Windows 10 Windows wallpaper goes black when switching to certain .png pictures

So, I've just bought a new 35" ultrawide monitor to use with my laptop. I've always used high-res, .png pictures as wallpapers, including files as large as 20MB, on my previous monitor that was connected to the same laptop.

Now, as I set a .png picture as a wallpaper, it goes completely black and Windows becomes somewhat laggy and unresponsive. When opening the settings, it seems that Windows changed the wallpaper to a solid color. I couldn't find anyone with the same issue on any forum.

Here are the solutions I've already tried, with no success:

- Reinstalled drivers (monitor; both integrated and dedicated graphics);

- Ran sfc/ scannow and DISM (no errors were found)

- Made sure the option to hide the wallpaper is unchecked in Ease of Access.

- Checked for updates. I'm using a fully updated Windows 10 version 2004.

I've had no issues when converting the .png file to .jpeg in Photoshop and then setting it as a wallpaper, however it's not ideal and I'd prefer to use .png.
Also, I have a pretty acceptable laptop, with a quad-core 8th-gen i5, 8GB of RAM, a MX150 and a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus. I think it should be more than enough to be able to set a large file as a wallpaper.

Any help regarding this issue would be really appreciated!
