Windows 11 WSL lxssmanager not running, but wsl is. How is that possible? (I thought the former was required for the latter)

WSL lxssmanager not running, but wsl is. How is that possible? (I thought the former was required for the latter)After the latest Windows 11 update broke my WSL, while troubleshooting I noticed that my LSXXManager was not running, but wsl was. (Eventually resolved my issue - the default distribution had changed by the update. Things for me are now fixed - sort of) but still, . . . I see WSL running just fine, but without LSXXManager running. How is that possible? Can someone please explain.
